Robin Frates, BA
YALE UNIVERSITY, DOUBLE MAJOR IN ENGLISH AND THEATER, CUM LAUDE
Ms. Frates has taught 6-8th ELA, 6th grade homeroom, and 6th grade math at GSBH since 2016, and she absolutely loves the school’s diverse, vibrant, and welcoming community. In 2019, she became the GSBH Today Newspaper Club moderator.
Before joining the Good Shepherd family, Ms. Frates taught high school English, AP English Language, and AP English Literature. She also worked for several years as a substitute elementary school teacher at Campbell Hall, and, since 2015, she has taught 5th to 7th graders in Harvard Westlake’s summer program, including classes in creative writing, fantasy writing, journalism, and Shakespeare. Prior to teaching, Ms. Frates served as a middle school and J.V. soccer coach at Marlborough School.
She hopes her students will graduate as competent, confident readers and writers who find joy in the process of expressing themselves and of exchanging ideas with others. She believes in engaging students and challenging them to produce high quality work through projects that not only appeal to their individual quirks and interests but that also challenge them to develop 21st century skills, such as creative problem solving, collaboration, analysis, and accountability.
Ms. Frates has three young adult children. On weekends, you will most likely find her at a soccer field playing with her team of “old ladies.” Ms. Frates graduated from Yale University cum laude with honors in her double major of English and Theater.
