  • What type of School is Good Shepherd?

    Good Shepherd Catholic School (GSBH) was founded in 1930 and is a Catholic co-educational elementary school for pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. We are a culturally diverse school that reflects the cultures in Los Angeles. We are proud of how well our students respect and accept one another.

  • Are there any age requirements?

    Yes, a child must be at least 5 years of age by September 1st of the year they are to begin Kindergarten. For TK, students must be 4 years of age by September 1st and for our PreK3 program, students must be 3 years of age by September 1st.

  • Are only Catholic students accepted?

    No, approximately 35% of our student body is non-Catholic.  All students are required to participate in Religion class and attend Mass.

  • Is GSBH accredited?

  • What about the faculty?

    All of our full-time elementary teachers are credentialed and/or have Master’s Degrees. In addition to the classroom teachers, we also have specialists in Spanish, Physical Education and Music.  Planet Bravo provides a technology specialist to work with our students in PK to Grade 8.  Barnsdall Arts runs our art program at Good Shepherd.

  • What subjects are taught?

    Our curriculum includes: Religion, Mathematics, English, Literature, Science, Social Studies, Spanish, Music, Fitness and Wellness, Art and Technology.

  • What extra-curricular activities are offered?

    Many activities are offered according to student interests. The school offers opportunities for students to join Student Council, Yearbook, Choir and Sports.  Beginning in Grade 3, students may join a variety of sports teams, including cross country, golf, flag football, cheerleading, basketball, archery, and track and field events.  The 8th grade also puts on a Musical each year, allowing grades 5, 6, 7 & 8 to audition for the production.

  • Is there After Care available?

    Yes, our Afterschool Care Program (ASC) provides after school care for our students in grades Pre-K through 8th grade. Our ASC staff provides a safe, nurturing, and interactive program designed to keep our students active, engaged, and well supervised.

  • What does the school schedule look like?

    Our campus opens at 7:30am each morning for a start time of 7:50 for students in TK to Grade 8.  After morning assembly on the playground, classes enter the school building to start their day.  PreK begins each day at 7:50am.  Dismissal Monday to Thursday is at 3:00pm with a 12:30pm dismissal each Friday. GSBH currently follows a 180 day school year, beginning in late August and ending in mid-June.
